Political Compass Test

Thirty questions. Then the distance between you and the people who actually governed.

Uncanted is a political compass test. It reads economics and authority separately, so a free-market civil libertarian does not land on the same point as a national conservative. It takes about eight minutes. The charts are open. Your own place comes after you finish.

Answer plainly

Five choices, from strongly disagree to strongly agree. About eight minutes.

02

Two axes

Left to right is economics: taxes, ownership, trade, welfare. Up to down is authority versus liberty: borders, speech, policing, faith, emergency power.

Sign in, then see it

Finish the test and, if you want an account, sign in. Accepting the terms is required. The charts stay open while you decide what to open next.

What the chart is not

It is not the trademarked Political Compass test, and it does not claim that two people near each other on a chart have the same morals. Stalin and a democratic socialist can share a taste for public ownership and share nothing else. Extremes stay on the map as the ends of the scale. They stay off the default nearest list unless one of them is closer than every ordinary figure.

Where the Congress numbers come from

Sitting members are placed from the votes of the current Congress. Presidents and world leaders are placed from the governing record. A nearby name is not a prediction of your votes. The methodology page says what each file uses, and the articles walk through the limits.

A political compass test, then a chart

What kind of test is this?

Uncanted is a political compass test. It takes thirty plain questions and about eight minutes. It places you on two axes: economics, and authority versus liberty.

Is this the Political Compass test?

No. It is not the trademarked Political Compass test. It is a separate test, and the chart compares you with people who have governed.

Who does it compare me with?

World leaders, U.S. presidents, and the current House and Senate. The atlases are free. Extras are optional.

How long does it take?

About eight minutes. Each question is one claim. You choose from strongly disagree to strongly agree.
